Clinical photos that:

  • never touch your camera roll
  • never sync to the cloud
  • never last longer than you need them

Capture, redact and store them in an encrypted vault on your phone — then send them however you already work.

Also handles video, voice notes and documents.

EMMS encrypted gallery: clinical images with retention countdowns, outside the camera roll

Where your clinical photos actually end up

In a camera roll, synced to the cloud, sitting between family photos — and sent on over WhatsApp, SMS or email. Here's what that costs you, and what EMMS does instead.

Your camera roll is a liability

Every clinical photo you take lands in your phone's photo library and syncs to iCloud or Google Photos — where it can resurface in Memories, in a shared album, or on a family tablet signed into the same account.

EMMS captures and stores images inside an encrypted sandbox — they never enter your camera roll.

You have no retention policy

Most physicians are sitting on thousands of patient images across their phone, email, and messaging apps — with no plan for when they'll be deleted.

EMMS auto-expires files after a period you set. Data minimization, documented and defensible.

Fax, SMS, and email weren't built for this

Unencrypted channels put patient data on servers, carrier logs, and devices you don't control — and leave no meaningful audit of who saw what.

EMMS encrypts content on your device before it leaves. Even we can't read it.

Capture it here. Send it anywhere.

Clinical photos go straight into an encrypted vault on your phone — never the camera roll. Redact what shouldn't travel, then send it however your colleague actually works.

Capture

Straight into the vault, not your photo library

Shoot clinical images inside EMMS and they land in an encrypted store on your device. Nothing syncs to iCloud or Google, nothing surfaces in Memories, nothing is sitting in a shared album waiting to be noticed.

Documents, videos and voice notes sit alongside them — and everything clears itself on the schedule you set.

Redact

Blur what shouldn't travel

Crop, redact or annotate before anything leaves. Blur a name, an MRN or a date of birth on a printout; circle the finding you want a second opinion on.

Location and camera metadata are removed automatically, so the file carries no record of where it was taken.

Choosing a destination: a colleague, a group, or another app
Send

However your colleague actually works

Pick a destination. A colleague on EMMS, a group, or several people at once — all end-to-end encrypted. Or hand the files straight to WhatsApp, email or AirDrop if that is where your colleague lives.

If they don't have EMMS, it prepares an encrypted secure link and opens your own messaging app with everything ready to send by SMS — EMMS never sends on your behalf. They verify with a one-time code and view the files in a browser, with no app to install and no account to create.

A copy shared outside EMMS leaves its protection — it won't auto-expire, and screenshot alerts don't apply.

Cases travel between EMMS users; send to a colleague without the app and the images arrive by secure link instead.

We can't read your files.
Neither can anyone else.

Content is encrypted on your device before it leaves. Our servers handle delivery and never see what's inside.

Never in your camera roll

Images are captured straight into the app's encrypted store, so they never enter your photo library — and the app excludes its data from iCloud, iTunes and Google backups, so they don't quietly replicate to cloud storage either.

End-to-end encrypted

Encrypted on your device before it leaves, and decrypted only by the person you sent it to. We hold no keys and could not read it if we were compelled to. In a group, every member gets an individually encrypted copy — there is no shared key to lose.

Nothing lingers

Files clear from your device on the schedule you set, and leave our servers within seconds of the recipient collecting them. Phone numbers are stored only as hashes, never in plain text. Data minimisation you can point at, not promise.

Attach photos, documents, video or a voice note

Built for how physicians actually work

Designed around clinical workflows, not adapted from a consumer messaging app.

Multi-capture camera

Shoot a run of clinical images in sequence, review each one, then send the set — without a single frame touching your photo library. SD by default so it sends fast on ward wifi; switch to HD when fine detail matters.

Built-in redaction

Blur names, MRNs and dates of birth before anything leaves. Crop, redact and annotate without stepping outside the encrypted pipeline.

Encrypted gallery

Everything you capture and receive, in one encrypted place — images, PDFs, documents. Search by label, filename or type, and label items to find them again.

Retention you control

Every item carries a countdown to deletion. Set the period that suits you, and mark the few things worth keeping as Keep Forever. Data minimisation, documented and defensible.

Clinical cases

Group up to 5 images and 5 files into one card with a title, context note and a voice explanation. Opens in a viewer with pinch-to-zoom, brightness and contrast, and side-by-side compare. Cases need the structured viewer at both ends, so they travel between EMMS users — for anyone else, send the images and files directly and they arrive by secure link. Cases expire by design: export to your EMR if it belongs in the record. EMMS is the transport, not the chart.

Voice notes

Describe a finding or dictate instructions rather than typing it on a ward corridor. Encrypted like everything else.

Also a messenger

Secure messaging, built in

Threaded 1:1 and group conversations with delivery and read receipts. Everything you have captured is already there to send — open a chat, attach, done.

End-to-end encrypted voice calls between EMMS users too, so the audio never crosses a carrier network unprotected.

Encrypted chat between physicians with X-ray images

Your phone is your weakest link.
We hardened it.

Even if your device is lost, stolen, or compromised, patient data inside EMMS remains protected.

App lock with PIN and biometrics

Turn on app lock to require authentication every time EMMS is opened. Supports fingerprint, face recognition, and PIN — independent of your device lock screen.

Screenshot and recording detection

EMMS monitors for screen capture and recording and alerts you the moment it's detected. Operating-system limitations mean screenshots can't be fully prevented on all devices, so EMMS focuses on immediate detection and notification.

Authentication failure protection

If your PIN is entered incorrectly, EMMS enforces a cooldown period. After repeated failures, the app locks down and offers a full data wipe to protect patient information.

Encrypted app sandbox

All images and files are stored encrypted inside the app's isolated sandbox. Nothing is written to the camera roll, photo library, or any shared storage location.

Remote wipe on device change

If your phone is lost or stolen, sign in on a new device — the previous session is automatically revoked and all local data on the old device is wiped. No IT department needed.

A better channel.
Not a replacement for your EMR.

EMMS closes the biggest practical gap most physicians have — a camera roll full of patient photos. It is not a regulated health record system, and using it does not by itself make you compliant with PHIPA, HIA, PIPA, or your College's policies on personal health information. Document clinical exchanges in the patient's record as you normally would.

Built around Canadian privacy principles. End-to-end encryption, ephemeral storage, hashed identifiers, and Canadian-only server infrastructure. The safeguards regulators and Colleges consistently expect of secure clinical communication.

Servers in Canada. Core infrastructure is hosted exclusively within Canadian borders. Limited delivery services (push notifications, SMS verification codes) operate through providers whose infrastructure may extend beyond Canada — but they never receive message or file content.

Minimal data collection. No phone numbers stored in plain text — hashed identifiers and delivery metadata only. Firebase handles push notifications; Twilio handles SMS verification codes. Neither sees your content. RevenueCat handles subscriptions and never receives clinical data.

Zero-knowledge architecture. Content is encrypted on your device before it leaves. We can't read it, can't share it, and can't be compelled to produce content we don't hold.

You still own documentation, consent, and the medical record. EMMS is the transport layer between you and a colleague. Your EMR remains the record of care. Document clinical exchanges, obtain consent where required, and integrate images into the chart the way you normally would.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most from physicians and IT teams.

Does EMMS make me compliant with my College and provincial privacy law?
No tool can make you compliant on its own — compliance is a function of how you practice, not which app you install. What EMMS gives you is a defensible technical foundation: end-to-end encryption, Canadian infrastructure, no camera roll exposure, no cloud backup leakage, and ephemeral storage. Those are the safeguards privacy regulators and Colleges consistently expect of secure clinical communication.

Your obligations around consent, documentation in the medical record, and clinical record-keeping under PHIPA, HIA, PIPA, PIPEDA, or your provincial equivalent remain unchanged. EMMS is the transport layer — your EMR is the record. Use them together, and keep your auto-delete window on: with retention off, your vault keeps clinical images indefinitely, which makes it a record you are responsible for.
Do clinical photos end up in my camera roll?
No — that is the whole point of the app. A photo taken with the EMMS camera is written straight into the app's encrypted storage and never passes through your device's photo library. It is not in your camera roll, not in Recently Deleted, and not in any shared or family album. It is also excluded from iCloud, iTunes and Google Cloud backups, so it does not reach a cloud account from the device either.

To be straight with you about the limit: photos you already took with your phone's own camera stay where they are. EMMS cannot reach into your library and remove them. Capturing in EMMS in the first place is what keeps a clinical image out of your camera roll.
What happens to photos I never send?
They clear themselves. Files gathered on the Capture screen are held encrypted and expire once they pass your retention window — the same setting your gallery uses, chosen in Manage Storage, and 14 days unless you change it.

Anything you did send or share is kept in your encrypted gallery. Anything you never sent is deleted when the window passes, so treat Capture as a staging area rather than storage. You can set the window shorter, set it longer, or turn expiry off altogether and clear files yourself.
Can I send photos via WhatsApp, email or AirDrop?
Yes, and it costs nothing. Gather the files on the Capture screen, tap Send, then choose Share — your device's own share sheet opens and you can hand them to any app. Location and camera metadata are still stripped, and the photos never entered your camera roll on the way through.

Be clear about the trade, though. Once a copy is shared outside EMMS it is no longer protected by the app: it will not auto-expire, and screenshot alerts do not apply. The app shows a one-time confirmation the first time you use Share for exactly that reason. Sending through EMMS instead keeps the file encrypted end-to-end the whole way, which is what the subscription pays for.
What happens if I lose my phone?
All data inside EMMS is encrypted within the app's sandbox and protected by your PIN or biometric lock. If authentication fails repeatedly, the app enforces a cooldown period, and after continued failures, locks down and offers a full data wipe. Files are never stored in your camera roll or backed up to iCloud or Google Cloud. A lost phone doesn't mean lost patient data — sign in on a new device to automatically log out and wipe the old one.
Can I send to a colleague who isn't on EMMS?
Yes, by secure SMS link. EMMS checks the recipient for you: if they already have the app, the files go straight into an end-to-end encrypted chat, which is the stronger route and the one to prefer where you have the choice.

If they don't, EMMS builds an encrypted secure link and opens your phone's own messaging app with everything pre-filled — you send it yourself, EMMS never sends SMS on your behalf. They tap the link, verify their number with a one-time code, and view the files in their browser, where the content is decrypted after verification. The link expires 24 hours after it is sent, whether or not it was opened.

Sending through EMMS — in a chat or by secure link — needs a subscription. Handing a copy to another app with Share does not.
Where are your servers?
All EMMS core infrastructure is hosted in Canada. Limited delivery services — push notifications and SMS verification — operate through providers whose infrastructure may extend beyond Canada, but they never receive message or file content. Our servers handle routing and delivery, but because of end-to-end encryption, they never have access to the content of your messages or files.
How much does it cost?
There is a free tier and a subscription. The clinical camera and the encrypted vault are free with no time limit — capturing, redacting, storing and sharing a copy out to another app cost nothing, because they happen entirely on your device.

A $9.99 CAD/month subscription adds sending through EMMS: end-to-end encrypted messages, group messages, secure SMS links to colleagues without the app, and encrypted voice calls. New accounts get the first month free — cancel any time during the trial at no charge. Subscriptions are managed through the App Store or Google Play.

Free consumer messaging apps are funded by advertising, data collection, or donations — and none were designed for clinical use. EMMS charges for sending so the product is funded by the people who use it, not by monetising their data. Your subscription pays for Canadian server infrastructure, SMS delivery and ongoing security development. No one else pays us — which means no one else has a claim on your data.
Can I make secure calls?
Yes. EMMS supports encrypted voice calling between users who both have the app. Unlike a regular phone call, which travels unencrypted through carrier networks, EMMS calls are end-to-end encrypted using WebRTC — the audio is encrypted on your device and decrypted only on the recipient's device. Our servers handle call routing but never have access to the audio content.
Can I use it on multiple devices?
EMMS is currently designed as a single-device application to maintain the strongest possible security posture. Your encryption keys are tied to your verified device. Multi-device support is on our roadmap and will be implemented in a way that maintains end-to-end encryption integrity without compromising the security model.
